Jan Bingley

Non-Executive Director

Jan Bingley is a senior executive with an extensive career in technology transfer, commercialisation and venture.

She has deep experience in governance especially as relevant to publicly funded organisations and in complex multi-party collaborations, is results focussed and a driver of entrepreneurial culture.

She is an advisor to Government on innovation policy relating to improved research & industry collaboration and commercialisation; appointed to various government working groups and committees to develop and operationalise government policy.

Jan has led a number of complex commercial negotiations ranging from $10-$70M in value with industry partners from various sectors and has been involved in forming and advising 29 start-up companies formed from CSIRO technologies including managing successful exits.

She has led and restructured Business Development and Commercial teams at CSIRO (~180 FTEs) to small, whole-of-life embedded teams accountable to science groups to support and advise on innovation activities ranging from patent prosecution through to identifying and executing against opportunities for external partnerships to generate IP and/or exploit IP for positive impact.

Jan was appointed as the inaugural director to Commercialisation Australia to operationalise government policy on increasing commercialisation outcomes.

Jan is currently the Director of Business Development and Commercialisation at La Trobe University and prior to this role was the Director of Business Development and Commercialisation at the Global CCS Institute.

She was also the General Manager Business Development and Commercialisation at the CSIRO between 2003 and 2015.

She holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance from Charles Sturt University and is a Member of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountant’s (CPA), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Directors (FAICD), and a Member of the Australian Society of Company Secretaries (CSA).
